The following players have made it through the 2nd round of the BC Card Cup, defeating their opponents and advancing to round 3. All six players are Korean.
Park Junghwan(7d)
Park Yeonghun(9d)
Lee Sedol(9d)
An Choyeong(9d)
Kim Kiyoung(5d)
Park Seunghyun(6d)
There are ten more games yet to be played in the 2nd round, all of which will be played this week. Two notable games to keep an eye on are the battles between:
Japan’s Iyama Yuta(9d) vs. China’s Niu Yutian(7d) - game date, February 5th
Japan’s Yamada Kimio(9d) vs. Korea’s Yoo Changhyuk(9d) - game date, February 4th
According to recently released rankings, Kong Jie(9d) is now ranked as China’s #1 professional player. From September 1 to December 31, he improved his point total from 2688 and 2721 points. Congratulations to Kong Jie for being China’s #1 ranked player!
After only 87 moves, Han Taehee(6d) resigned to An Choyeong(9d) in the 2nd round of the 2nd BC Cup. Han Taehee was the amateur 6 dan who defeated Lee Changho in the 1st round, causing much speculation around the Go world about how an amateur 6 dan could beat (arguably) the world’s top Go player. The game is below.
Cho U (Judan) defeated Yamashita Keigo (Kisei) by 6.5 points in the second round of the 34th Kisei title match. Cho U leads the series 2:0. The third round will be played on February 3-4.
