Sunday, November 29, 2009

Xie He (7d) of the Chinese team took the first stage in the 11th Nongshim Cup by defeating Kim Jiseok (6d) of the Korean team. Xie He will move on to the second stage, with the first game to be played on January 18, 2010.

Here’s how the tournament works (from Sensei’s Library):

“The Nongshim Cup or Nongshim Spicy Noodles Cup is a team tournament with five participants from each participating country (China, Japan, and Korea). Each person who wins continues to play opponents from the other two teams (alternating between them) until there are no more opponents left.
